Church and Monastery of St Martin

The foundation stone was laid in 1606 and the authorization from Pope Paul V came in 1618.
The pipe organ, made by an unknown artist is dated back to the early nineteenth century whereas the small bell tower dated back to the eighteenth century.

It is believed that the building close to the church of St. Martin was a former benedectine monastery for novice nuns from the lower class, whereas the monastery of S. Leonardo was for the upper class. However, many documents testify that in this monastery lived members from both classes.

The Monastery opened in 1620. The first group of fifteen young men and two convent school - girls were led by the abbess Donna Felice Indelli, from the Monastery of St. Leonardo. The building was also the seat for the “Confraternity of Scaricatori”. Nowadays, the building belongs to the Curia and it is a cultural centre and the seat of many voluntary associations.
