St Leonard’s Museum, established in 2000, is located along the women’s gallery of the Benedictine nuns, who lived in this sacred place.<\/p>\n

The peculiarity of the works of art that can be admired in this cultural container is that they can be enjoyed in the spaces in which they were used by the nuns who commissioned them; they are, therefore, a faithful mirror of a cultural-religious temperament as local as it was national and international. This nucleus of sacred art objects is flanked by another, that of the pious sodality of St. Joseph, a confraternity active in St. Leonard.<\/p>\n

The visitor takes a journey through sacred art from the 16th to the 21st century, in the course of which he or she admires a forty-hour machine and silverware, crucifixes, reliquaries, missals and more. The suggestion aroused by these artistic testimonies is amplified by the frame of the women’s gallery, played out by the alternation of areas of shadow and light, from which one can enjoy a privileged view of the entire church, in the past exclusive to the Black Benedictines, who enjoyed it hidden from the gaze of onlookers by the gratings still in place today.<\/p>\n
