Rendella Library
The Rendella Library is the full expression of the UNESCO Manifesto for Libraries, shared by the city and implemented with a modern and participatory spirit as never before.
Returned to citizenship after 11 years of closure and massive restoration work, the library is defined as a new 'square of knowledge', a multimedia and multicultural venue, intent and attentive to satisfy the needs of a constantly evolving public, just as rapidly and continuously evolving are technologies and social relations.
Technology, an important chapter. Not everyone has the opportunity to use it: the 'Prospero Rendella' Civic Library will be the place where, in addition to finding books, it will be possible to offer technological and multimedia access to the sources of knowledge free of charge to all, with the aim of warding off the various forms of physical, technological, social and cultural exclusion and marginalisation.
Located in a building that has been transformed over the centuries from barracks, to a city theatre and fish market, then (1958) Historical Archive and Municipal Library named after the Monopoli jurist Prospero Rendella (1553-1630), the "Prospero Rendella" Civic Library is conceived as a new place, far from the collective imagination of a library, of which citizens are proud and which can impose itself on the panorama of the Province of Bari and the entire Region. The mission, which is not that of a 'simple' library, can be summarised as follows:
friendly and flexible place for gathering and socialising;
a place to promote and approach culture, information and all communication tools, where citizens can identify and recognise themselves;
multifunctional, convergent and inclusive place, capable of activating new energies in the community, a true cultural centre of the city.
Read, listen, see, play, learn, participate, be together, as much as possible and in step with the times.
