The municipal villa is a lovely green area in the centre of Monopoli. At the entrance is a bust of John Barnabas, known in the city as the 'doctor of the poor', while the final portion is enriched by a fountain decorated with sea creatures. The villa has several benches, making the place ideal for a rest in the shade of the pine trees. The area occupies an area formerly known as Cala fontanelle since several fountains stood here from which the inhabitants drew water in times of drought.
