Folklore

Monopoli has a number of popular traditions, some of which have been handed down to this day.
Each event is a cultural product of the city: the rites associated with Holy Week, the large number of processions that take place throughout the year (Corpus Domini, S. Cosimo, the patronal feast of Maria SS.ma della Madia and others).
A process of beliefs, habits, customs and customs of the city, which we find in life practices and beliefs (making pettole or cartellate during the Christmas period; lighting bonfires on the evening of the feast of St. Joseph,. ).
Also worth mentioning is the Monopoli countryside: the contrade, with illuminations and festivals, bring to the attention of visitors and tourists the customs and aspects of social life in the rural world of Monopoli.
The gastronomic aspect is an example of this, with specialities characterising and distinguishing each event.
